DaaS and Your Data Security

DaaS and Your Data Security

  • February 14,2024

In a traditional IT setup, employees connect to your organization’s resources – your sales records, your customer list, your accounting data – work on them, and then put them back when they’re done.

This model opens security issues we’ve all been concerned with in recent years. Your data: who’s got it, where is it, and who’s had access to it? If the device containing that data is lost, stolen, or otherwise compromised, your business faces significant organizational risk.

This business risk is in terms of not just what we’ve lost in data, but also in terms of compliance and liability. If I’m a healthcare organization, and the laptop I left on the train has patient data, or if I work for a sales organization, and the lost device has customer credit card numbers, am I in breach of HIPAA and PCI compliance? And how would this breach affect cybersecurity insurance premiums?

With Desktop-as-a-Service, the appropriate person in your company can simply go online and wipe all data from the lost device. When that device is clean, your data is no longer at risk.

DaaS allows us to get out of the old paradigm of taking data outside the company. And just as important, provides a better user experience overall.
